The workshops are intended for people who have experimented with ceramic glazes little or not at all – and who finally want to understand *what* and *why* is happening in the glaze bucket and then in the kiln.
The formula is based on a combination of theory and practice: lecture elements are intertwined with exercises, thanks to which knowledge turns into experience, and experience into knowledge. Prior knowledge of technological issues is not required — that’s what the instructor is for 😉.
When designing the workshop, we were guided by the principle of “a fishing rod instead of a fish”. The experimental part is focused on understanding the operation and function of individual ceramic raw materials, and not on “making one finished glaze”. This workshop teaches technological thinking, not formula reproduction.
What You Will Take Away
The program is intensive, but designed so that participants leave with:
- a solid foundation of knowledge,
- real experience working with glazes,
- and tools that allow them to continue experimenting independently.
During the workshops, you will learn, among other things:
- how to read and calculate glaze recipes,
- how to consciously modify them,
- how to prepare glazes “according to the rules of the art”,
- how to think about coloring, ingredient proportions, and their properties.
All these issues will also be the subject of practical experiments. Each participant receives their own scale, tools, and test tiles to work with, so that they can independently go through the entire process, feel like a researcher-technologist and (very likely) catch the technological bug for good.
Workshop Duration
The workshops take place over a weekend and last a total of 16 hours:
- 8 hours on Saturday (with a lunch break),
- 6 hours on Sunday (with a lunch break),
- 2-hour online summary meeting, after the test firings.
The classes are entirely led by Zuza Nowak from Pracownia Edukacyjna BISKWIT.
During the workshops, participants create 20–30 test tiles and take part in approximately 4 hours of presentation-lecture part.
PS. Don’t worry if the word “chemistry” makes you slightly stressed — these workshops are also for you!
They were designed for people who want to understand glazes but don’t necessarily want to go back to school chemistry lessons in their minds. We do not focus excessively on chemical formulas or complicated equations — we focus on logic, dependencies, and practice, which is what actually helps in daily work with glazes.
I bought a ticket, but I cannot attend. What now?
You can return the ticket up to 30 days before the event (till 27.05.2026), and you’ll receive a full refund. If that’s your case, contact us via email or Instagram. If you cancel the ticket after 27.05.2026, we may retain up to 50% of the total price.
In case the minimal number of attendees isn’t reached (8 people), we reserve the right to cancel the event. In that case we’ll inform you at minumum 24 hours before the event.
